evolution of smartphones
- earlier the phones which were used were commonly called as "featured phones" because they were equipped with limited features like sending text messages, making calls.
- Smart phones have really evolved a lot. The first smartphone came in 1992 bought by IBM. It was the Simon Personal Communicator (SPC) & now here we are in 2023 with smartphones having a ton of features.
- from a very humble beginning as basic devices from making calls, sending text messages, smartphones have now transformed into a powerful and versatile device that have completely transformed our way of living.
revolutionary change
- Introduction of I-phones
- introduction of apple's I-phone in 2007 proved to be a game changer. I-phones were the first modern type of smartphones. At that time other manufacturers were only focusing on flip phones.
- the design of I-phones was kept minimalistic. They had a flat design that only had a single button at the front.
-android's entry
- Android's open-source nature & its flexibility to be used in wide range of devices of different manufacturers made it very popular & it led to increased adoption of smartphones worldwide.
- since android is open-source, it become popular among the web developers. This has led to the development of many mobile apps that have changed the way we live and work.
smartphones of today
-5G
- smartphones are changing the way humans are interacting with technology. There are many new arenas which are making smartphones more advanced & useful.
- the new upcoming smartphones are providing 5G connectivity which will further help us in making smart homes and cities by giving boost to IOT (internet of things). With the help of 5g many heavy games can be played with minimal lag.
-Artificial intelligence
- AI powered smartphones will be more personalized as it will be able to adapt according to the consumer preferences & tastes.
- virtual assistants such as apple's Siri, Amazon's Alexa will be more advanced as they will be able to function in a more interactive manner & will be able to handle more complex tasks.
Foldables
-advantages
- foldable smartphones are a new form factor which offers a ton of benefits. They can offer you the screen size according to your wish. They ability to fold a smartphone makes it even more portable. You can use it as a tablet or as a phone when needed. They are more portable than traditional tablets as they can be folded in half.
- multitasking is also possible; you can use multiple apps side by side which can increase your productivity.
-challenges
- Apps are needed to be optimized according to foldable phones; some apps may not be optimized according to these phones which will eventually lead to bad user experience.
- hinge is another problem in foldable smartphones. Some users have reported that hinge becomes loose overtime. This poses a question on foldability of smartphones as hinge is the main factor responsible for the success of these type of smartphones. With regular use or wear & tear, there can be problems with hinge leading to difficulty in opening or closing of these smartphones.
- screens of foldable smartphones are more delicate as compared to traditional glass screens & hence they are more prone to cracks & screens.
conclusion
- It depends on one's perspective whether the future of smartphones is promising or not. From the point of view of technology, the future is good enough. If we look from the aspect of society, there are a lot of concerns.
- when smartphones reach the end of their life, they should be properly disposed off , if they are not properly disposed off, many toxic chemicals such as lithium, cobalt can harm the environment.
- extraction of raw materials is also a major issue, most of the raw materials are extracted through mining which can have harmful effect on the environment.
thanks for coming till the end πππππππ
